This is the thread for our Sniper set.
We thought the piratey look suits Kardel quite well and a bit of humour won't hurt. So our first concepts are below: weapon and backpack.
The leather belt is too straight on the closest part to the bag, that's such a ridiculous default to say your 2D job is amazing ! :poly142:
:poly142: :poly142: :poly142: :poly142: :poly142: :poly142:
Just discovered this smiley, it made my day.

Our guideline was more of a "pirate wannabe". We thought pirates are cool and maybe sniper thinks the same.
As for it being a stretch, I guess an excuse could be: He was banished, forced to live on his own, he decided to trade the land for the sea, became a pirate well known for his sharpshooting
Loving this even more now, the sculpting looks great!
The only part that looks a slight bit muddy is the belt that's hiding on the cannon, specifically cause it's the only part I can see a.t.m is the buckle.

I believe it's just a case of unfortunate lighting. It does appear quite flat, but it's sculpted
Thank you everyone for the kind words. They motivate us!
If you're talking about specular masks, that's a 3d studio max render with the standard materials. We tried to get something a little similar to the ingame shader (specular, rimlight, etc.)
It's not even close to the actual Dota shaders, but it shows some of the effects
Really cool presentation dude!
But the left hand is inside the cannon, won't that be a problem when Valve reviews the submission?
Would like to see some shots in the Dota2 viewer!
Shots in the Dota 2 viewer are comming soon. Alex is currently dealing with this.
About the hand problem: His default pose has the hand closed a certain amount. That pretty much dictates the "perfect width" for the gun. Since our concept is pretty far out of the common sniper gun type, the only option is for him to hold it kind of from the side, like it is now. I've tried it with the hand showing on the other side of the gun (the side you see most), but it looks a lot worse when his whole hand is through the gun and only the fingers show on the other side
We're committed to the concept and hopefully it won't be a problem

I'd watch the size of that gun though, purely for clipping reasons.
Can't wait to see more

Very nice overall hoping to see just as good 3D.
Thanks for the kind words. The OP has been updated with a colored version of the concept. You'll see some 3D soon enough
Hope to see this in 3D !
We're gonna make a quick test with the gun soon and see if there's any issue with the animations. It should be easy to fix though.
Shoulder concept should be ready tomorrow!
P.S.: 3D will take a little bit longer, but it's comming!
Also, been working a little on the back. The polygon budget is a little tight, but I think we can pull it off
What is it about Sniper that makes everyone think of pirates? He's a dwarven marksman from a mountain village, seems like a big stretch to me.

Keep on the amazing work!
Updated OP with the coloured shoulder. Final lowpoly version of the weapon coming in the next few days.
Added 3ds max screens with the lowpoly version of the weapon. It's pretty much done
Also added the head piece concept. Ingame shots should come soon.

Enjoy!

And thank you for the comment!

Looks good in the angles that count though
