ArenaNet Environment Art Test ^-^

I am so VERY late to the party but I'm hoping that I can still make it. My tris count is a little too high so I gotta figure out a way to bring it way down.

Also, this maybe a dumb question but does anyone know if when the ArenaNet guidelines says '3000 polys' do they mean polys as in triangles? or polys as in quads (squares)? The definition of polys tends to be different for every person I ask.

    tris they mean and you really went a little too much one a lot of the stuff.

    yeah, always assume polys means tris - couple of easy savings i can see, firstly you've got a lot of quads on arched sections that you could reduce to fanned tris - things like the doorstep for example, don't need the extra verts at the back, just on the front to form the curve. secondly you probably want to use floating geometry for things like the roof points. there's no need to truemesh it all together for most engines which means you can have two much simpler pieces just intersecting. you lose a bit of UV space but it's generally worth it since it's pretty hard to use 100% of the UV layout anyway.

    Hey, nice model overall is good, maybe, maybe I am wrong haha but, you can have less tris if you make those parts seperatly

    First, thank you all for the replies.

    Second, well it turns out that ArenaNet removed the Environment Intern position from their website awhile ago before the deadline. Which is kind of bitter sweet since i ended up not being able to get it done in time anyways. I still intend to finish it and make it an awesome portfolio piece though.

    Currently testing out my large tile textures. Probably going to end up changing the foundation texture I don't like how it's tiling.

    I think overall this needs a lot of work. The textures look very dated and bland. The default render in max makes it look like you just started 3d 10 days ago. ect. Put it in a game engine.
