Hello! I'm planning on taking the Doom Bringer in a slightly more subtle direction. I want to create a new set that gives gives him a hood and tabard over slightly less gaudy armour, to give him more of a fallen angel feel. Work starting soon...
I like the cape idea! It will give him a scary yet evil (which it should be) look. Is it just me or would some more edges around the cape make it look more badass
Yep, I'll be adding in more edges, this pic is just concepting really. I think I'm going to add the horns back in poking through the hood, as Valves character design guide mentions how much they want to keep the silhouette of the character recognisable. I might damage one of the horns a bit hellboy style.
LOL nice, I wanted to make a hood styled design in the beginning also for some reason it works well with him, glad to see someone taking it on, I like the messed up horn.
I want to have a runic-style design going around the hood, I'm not particularly knowledgabe on the lore of DOTA, would it be acceptable to use old english runes such as these, or is there something else more appropriate to the DOTA universe?
First pass sculpt. Needs work to the lower cloth (skirt) bit, skull on the shoulder and shoulders general need some more attention. I'm pretty happy with the horns, hood, upper body cloth.
I realy like this idea. Seems like most of the other doombringer concepts revolve around adding more armor and horns so its Nice going the opposite direction.
It important you nail the cloth draping Which needs the most work right now. Horns look great
hey, cool lookin set so far, but I started a thread for Queen of Pain with the same name before you did. I would appreciate it if you chose a new name, thanks! And good luck with your set, it looks like you've been making a lot more progress than i have in a shorter amount of time.
No problem Lam, when I submit I'll call it simply the 'Fallen' set or somesuch, not sure I can change the thread name.
Also, thanks for that link Strange! I can't download the attachment in the thread because I'm not part of the Dota beta, grrr. I've just been using the spectator client. I'll try and get hold of it somehow...
Aiming on nailing down the sculpt in my lunch hour today.
-edit: Just found the dictionary in google docs, woohoo. I'll probably reuse the runic symbols that are on the current doombringer shoulders.
Sculpt progress update. I'm much happier with the skull on the shoulder pad, and the general flow of the cloth. Going to start texturing soon. I'll probably polypaint in the base colours, and then go into photoshop for the details.
This is my first go at transferring all the sculpt data into maps and onto the game-res mesh. I'm getting a few issues with the normal maps here, and I still need to test them in-engine. I've only got colour maps and normal maps in these renders too, I haven't started the masks yet. All to come soon hopefully.
I'm also planning on adding further jazz to the textures, adding in the runes and other details.
Progress update at last! I've been rigging, downressing and mask-map making. With the colour maps and normal maps on in maya he's looking like this at the moment:
I've tested bits of him in-engine, full tests and handing this weekend, when I have some time to work finally! Woohoo.

I would definitely add some wear and tear to the edges of the metal pauldrons as well as some dirt at the bottom of the robe.
Good luck
