Hi Everyone, here's my entry for the DOTA2 contest: the Phantom Lancer desert nomad set (working title).
I was drawn to Phantom lancer because of his back story and I wanted to create a set that depicts him trekking across the desert to search for his enemies. During his journey he would pick up anything he can get his hands on to create makeshift armor pieces:
I realize I'm pretty late in the process so I must go into modeling stage right away but I feel like doing last minute variations on color scheme and minor details which I'll post later.
Please feel free to leave comments & suggestions or if you see any technical things that might raise red flag.

It will look awesome
Scarf, + 2 shoulder pads + chest emblem and back shield... there's no way you'll have the poly's to cover all that. I'd ditch the shield and see if just the back side of the straps (from the front) is cool enough.
Belt/skirt I'd add one more piece of cloth between the cloth thats there now and the skull for when you move to rigging its harder than it seems to cover the missing geometry under there.
Spudnik: I wanted to have something on the back to create visual interest so I'll explore more options and if I can't come up with anything I'll just leave it blank as you suggested
Agentfx: I will definitely keep your suggestion in mind as I go along. My plan is to keep things modular and start modeling the most essential pieces and drop any extra pieces if necessary due to design / time constraints.
I'd like to get people's opinion regarding the scarf, if i should lower the height to show the whole face and prevent the beard from crashing with the scarf or keep it the way it was initially. Here's quick variation i did:
thanks
Just one thing, for your weapon, the bladed part looks a bit short for a spear no?
bounchfx - cool man thanks for the tip. I'm definitely leaning on showing the whole face or at least make some compromise from the initial vision I had for it.
Zeroing in on the final armor concept. Scarf and chest piece is pretty much locked in, trying some things with the belt area, added an extra flap at the front to cover the missing geometry as suggested. Ditched the back shield and modified the right arm piece to make it more interesting, while still keeping in line with the makeshift bone armor theme:
Realized I haven't really spent time on the weapon concept. Did a few variations and not sure which direction to go in. I'm leaning towards #1 or #3 but #2 is growing on me as well :poly122:
As always feedback is welcomed Thanks.
It rhymes!
