I wanted to create a set for dazzle, using his native american and dark influences as a guide. Just trying to get it fleshed out with these concepts. Lemme know what you guys think!
1, 2, and 3 are great. 5 and 6 vary too much from the original design/change the silhouette, and 4 is has the opposite problem being not different enough from the original design.
Am I really the only one who likes 3? I think the mask, weapon, and the unique take on the "headdress" looks awesome.
I'm really liking 1 and 4, however 5 intrigues me. I love the shape of the feathers and how you've used them in 4, though it doesn't sway too far from the original look and feel of the character. I think 5 is definitely worth exploring more. I'd like to see what else you can do with that design.
Wow, great feedback. You guys are awesome! Also featured on the dota 2 blog... crazy!
Anywho, back to business. After seeing all the comments and using my own judgement, I think 1 and 4 are obviously the strongest choices, with 5 being a wild card. I don't see 5 working as is though, it doesnt have quite the volume the original does.
I made a quick mock up of the design for you guys to see what I'm talking about.
The second picture is just kind of round 2. Just mix-and-matching, picking elements I thought were most successful, trying to solidify the design. If there other combinations you guys want to see, lemme know, and I'll see what I can do!
All of the ideas are probably fantastic and I can only recommend you create every single item you have thought up in the OP image. Especially set number 2, 3 and 1. Are my favorites, in that order. Although the staff from 3 looks the best. Really though, make all of them please. I want to buy them. Yes literally buy them.
5, 4 and 1 are my favourites, in descending order. 5 might need a little change with how the silhouette works, but right now it's looking really good, keep it up!
One thing I say could be that make the cape it the "wild card" a bit more lifted. As if he'd tucked his hair under there. It could also help keep his silhouette the same.
For everything else there is NOTHING I can complain about.
I've been working on the highpoly for the first version. Here's what I have so far. I haven't added the earrings yet.
The biggest thing I'm concerned about is the approach to the bones on his skirt... not sure if its too heavyhanded. I'm not also not 100% sure about the design on his hip pads, but that can be changed easily if necessary. Lemme know what you think!
I'm definitely gonna try that out Managor. I have a couple other ideas to try out as well... should be fun
Thanks to everyone for commenting! As always, C&C welcome!
One thing though: I would play around with moving the tuffts of hair to different sides when looking at him straight on. That will make it look way more interesting ESPECIALLY from the 45 degree top down angle he has in-game
Awesome! looking really good! I agree with jGcount on losing that bit of symmetry he has going with the hair tuffs. also maybe make the bones on the sides of the skirt a tad bigger.

I love the bones, I really do. But if you have to lose them then I don't think the overall aesthetics of the skirt would be ruined. As said in another post be careful with how detailed the final model becomes.
You could also trim the bones down to only have the 2nd and 4th bone if that would let you keep some bones if 4 is too much.
I'm not also not 100% sure about the design on his hip pads, but that can be changed easily if necessary. Lemme know what you think!
I think the design on the hip pads will come down to the textures themselves rather than what you can actually model. There's lots of stuff you can do with those. Considering there is 3 dots and Dazzle has 3 fingers there's something you can play with there considering the tribal theme. Lots to play with that you can't necessarily see even on a high poly model.
Slooooowww progress... but progress nonetheless. Worked up the second version of the design. The bracer is unfinished, but I wanted to see if you guys like before I continue. I'm really torn between v1 and v2... trying to figure out a way right now to logically decide. Should be fun!
About the symmetry of his fur, I've thought about it, but I really don't think its an issue... Dazzles mohawk is symmetrical as well, but his animation adds the sway and asymmetry. So, in-game you won't ever notice.
As for the tri-count of his skirt, it's definitely gonna be close! But I think I can just squeeze it out... I've already removed one the bones and made them bigger to help with this. Also, I checked when making the sculpt base how many tris I was at, and it was just over. So, I should be able to trim a little here and there.
Gonna be making the low poly's for these pretty soon... so, if you guys like one over the other, drop a comment!
I still have to rework the wild card design... should be coming up next!
Hey guys, having a bit of a problem. I was wondering if you could help me out?
Ever since the last update(I think), I have not been able to test items for Dazzle in the game... it still works for the other heroes though. Also, all of my items that previously worked don't work anymore. When I try to import it gives me this error.
Failed to load specified VMT template 'materials/models/heroes/dazzle/dark.vmt' for class 'dazzle'.
No dice... I was hoping they would have fixed it in the last update, but that didn't happen. So, I'm kinda stuck myself. Anyone know the dota 2 team email?

4 works really well to, but too much indian!
then I like 5 more bc it's more original
EDIT: By the way. You may want to know that your entry was featured on the Dota 2 blog. Congrats!

And the headdress detail...
I don't think I will have time to work up the other designs...So I will have to stick this one. Which is okay, because this was my favorite anyways.
Gonna be working next on his staff, arm slot and the earrings for the misc(?) slot. Hopefully I can get this stuff pumped out quickly!
C&C welcome!
Managed to work out the arm stuff
Can't wait to get started on the staff

I've already verified the game cache...but I can't seem to find anything on the dark.vmt. Can any of you import his items? Is it just on my end?
Any ideas?
I'll have a try when I get home from work and let ya know if I'm having problems.
