Maya Spline Snapping Problem! URGENT!

Hi guys,

working on a visualization project for university, and wanted to make a bugatti - thought it would be a great practice at hard edge modelling; and a suitable portfolio piece.

I'm using a tutorial to help out; which suggested to use splines (like below) to map out the car and then plane snap onto those edges to give the overall shape; a technique apparently used widely in industry.

Problem is, although its snapping; it doesnt seem to snap well. I've adjusted the snapping amount in preferences, but again it doesnt really seem to snap straight away - i have to really mess around moving it until it eventually does snap.

Any advice on other ways I could tackle this using my splines would be GREATLY appreciated.

Cheers

Hold c using the move tool to snap verts/CVs to a curve or edge. (may also need to use MMB while doing so, I forget)

    Whats MMB?

Tried holding C - no difference in results :(

MMB is middle mouse button, and C is the snap to curve option. Make sure you're in translate mode.

I've experienced the same thing where you have to rotate the camera a few times in between trying to snap to the curve until it finally snaps properly. So far I haven't been able to find a solution for it and just accepted it as one of Maya's quirks :S

Clicking or dragging MMB instead of LMB just means that whatever object you have selected will attempt to snap to the closes snappable object to your cursor. It's really usefull when you wanna snap something onto a dense mesh - you can just zoom in on say the vertex you want and do V+MMB click onto the vertex to snap your selection to that vertex.
