[Dota2] - Lycanthrope - [Set name Tbd]

Hey guys! Just starting my work in progress post! My friend and I decided to go in on this project together. He is the concept artist and I will be doing the modeling. I figured that we should do this character because he doesn't have a lot of armor pieces on the store. Also he is one of my favorite champs to play!

Hello Hello! I thought I would start off this WIP thread with some ideas! We all know solid and clear ideas are one of the first steps to starting off a successful art piece. To reiterate: My buddy and I decided upon Banehallow (Lycanthrope). My personal reasons/thought process for picking this character is because I felt like his armor was short of generic. I also thought that this would be a interesting character because of the possible variations of armor pieces, which is 6 in total. Head, shoulders, belt, armor, and weaponsX2. Two different models for the weapons, which can open up some cool possibilities. Lastly! I enjoy playing Lycan in game which compels me even further to create a nice looking set that I would want to see in game.

Okay! Time for some images! In this project I thought it would be fun to show not only the concept art stage, and the modeling stage, but also the concept ideas that brought us to those final concepts.

So first off I give you: The character!

Since we already know what the character looks like, and we know a little bit of his lore(it's pretty vague). Since we don't have to create these ideas, this gives us a huge head start.

So lets look at the character!

So after looking at the characters lore and stature, I start brainstorming ideas about possible sets that would make sense with the character.

To writing! I apologize if these notes are hard to read but I thought it would be fun to show my thought process, hopefully it makes sense.

These notes are for two different possible armor sets, we are still formulating ideas right now.

I also made the mistake of calling Banehallow's father a king, he isn't! I suppose he would be a lord or duke, or something along those lines.

Here are some of concept ideas for our set armor. We decided to go with a heavy armor look. The first image is the very first concept we had for the character. I requested a few changes. These changes are shown in the second image, I wanted one of the shoulders to be different so that it breaks up the symmetry of the character. I also wanted fur added in between the belt armor and the chain mail. Also attached are a few ortho views of our characters weapon. Here are the untextured models of the weapons. I think they are looking pretty slick so far!

Here are a couple views of the pauldrons, these are those the high-res portrait view. For the in-game model most of the detail will be stripped away.

Here are the high res versions of the pauldrons. There are a few spots where I can optimize geometry but for now I'm going to bed.

This is the final look of how the set turned out. A few small changes may be made but it's mostly all there. This is for LOD1 and all pieces are under or at their requirements poly wise.

Having some troubles skinning the belt to the skeleton, any suggestions? It seems like it needs to be able to differentiate between what is cloth and what is metal, and its not doing that right now.
