Art is what I want to do for a career, but this is my hobby. I love music, and I've wanted to be able to write my own music since I was young. But I never properly learned music theory, or how to even read music. Everything I do is by ear.
I've had a number of people ask me if my music was available for use in their projects or demoreels. They totally are! You are welcome to use any of my songs for your projects or demoreel, free of charge. I just ask that you credit me.
I know this isn't a music forum, but feedback is also appreciated! I know my mixing and EQ could use a lot of work. (And I compose almost all of my work in C Minor).
The only song that doesn't have a download link is Absolution, but for you guys I will make an exception. PM me and I'll give you the link.
AlexCatMasterSupreme: It's all art, bro. This is art, and it's related to games. Music is pretty dang important for games.
David Wakelin: Check your PM! Right now the downloads are all linked on youtube, but I am hoping to publish an album in the future (pay-what-you-want style), where everything will be available in one download. But before I do that, I have a LOT of remastering to do.
Even though I think these are amazing AlexCatMasterSupreme is correct. This isn't 2D or 3D video game art. I think this would go in general discussion since really this is a site more for visual art not musical. But your stuff is really nice.
It's "Pimping and Previews" there's no mention of 2D or 3D art rules (or even that it must be video game related). I think it's entirely appropriate to post this here.
Great work Makkon! Really impressive stuff, and a nice listen
Great music! To be honest though, I'm not a fan of the waltz...I feel like it doesn't flow properly...I havent been in band for 4 years so I forget the technical terms...off key maybe?
wow. by the time I got too Impressions of Celestial origins I was hooked. amazing stuff, sounds like Hanz Zimmer meets the braid soundtrack.
Do you have a soundcloud?
I also have a passion for production/sound design outside of art, but my work is mostly EDM/Techno this stuff has really amazed me.
Anyways if you have a link to your SC you've got another follower in me, keep it up
I'm really glad you like my work, guys! If there's a particular song you want to use for any of your projects, you don't even need to ask. :]
Sean VanGorder: I've got some videos on my livestream, but they're very amature, long, and unofficial. You can still check them out though! I want to do a legit video sometime about it though. http://www.livestream.com/makkon
Selaznog: I can see what you mean, it's not a typical waltz. I broke a lot of rules using half steps and an unusual chord progression in this one. That's why it might sound 'offkey', chromatics do that sometimes.
Paradan: Gah, that old amature thing! Nah, I can do better. If you check out the second audio sketch here, that's it's official successor...when I finish it.
Starts about 1:00

I'll check out those links! I'm learning up on theory at this time, so I'm up for any useful resources there are.
Dylan Brady: I do have a soundcloud! I usually use to to dump WIPs, but it's still good stuff worth showing! http://soundcloud.com/makkon
Thanks again, guys! Music is a hobby for me, I don't know if I could write music under pressure, but I love doing it. Thank you for listening, and for your positive feedback.
Absolutely amazing and really motivational when working.
Listened to them all, my favorites being:
Makkon befriends Jeffthestrider - Impressions of Celestia Origins
One Cold Morning
Winterglade
An album of similar sounding tracks and I would happily buy for £10 or even more
I have always personally wanted to get into music, I have had basic education in it but not the equipment or know how of the software.
Also, people saying this not being art? Wtf.. Grateful he did post here otherwise I would have never listened to it, also very refreshing to see compared to generic other threads.
Hi Makkon, lovely music, listening to the first track, my music system is incredibly clear and detailed and to my ears it sounds like it needs a bit more bottom, like the sustain on the piano should have a bit more 'oomph'.
All the haters on the forum, sound is 90% of animation, surprised there's not a subforum, as Polycount is used as a recruiting place then it seems natural to presume that small or even large studios would be looking for unique compositions.
You're probably right, Cube, I'm still learning mixing and I need to get myself some good studio headphones (dang things are expensive). Thank you for your feedback!
I suspect some day that this hobby may have use in a studio. In a lot of projects I've been involved in, I was recruited for art but later did sound and music in addition to my art. I don't know if that will happen in the industry, but it could.
I think it is the piano sample, it's very bright and it's specifically a jazz piano. I could layer the base notes with a heavier sample. That should do the trick.
I've also been told that Dregs is a great Pokemon battle song. But I don't actually know what sort of theme you're going for, so grab what you like. These all have download links in the description.

Dude your body of work is awe inspiring. I expected to check out your art and tell you to stick to the music because that's what you were put on this earth to do, but holy cow... keep on keepin' on.
Takin' your name down, may try to coerce some work out of you in the relatively near future!
Your work is incredible dude, nice work. The quality of some of these tracks is up there with some of my favourite game composers. You could definitely make a career out of this!
One cold morning made me giggle for like a minute straight in a shocked but impressed way! To me it had an almost cutesy avatar feel to it. What might be fun is to add some orchestral vocals on top of your work. But if anyone does hit you up for your music capabilities outside of PC just remember that you're work is near top composers I feel, don't sell yourself short :P!
I just subscribe you on Youtube, Watch you on DA, Like you on Facebook, and Follow on Soundcloud !! Please keep up the great work. And when you do release the album, do let me know. I will support that too !!!
Music is art. To be honest, music plays a big role in games. Whenever you walk in a town and the music goes on. I really adds a new layer of atmosphere.
Going to check these out when i go home! keep creating music! =D
crazyfingers: Thanks, bro! I'm currently taken and under contract right now, so the most I could do for you couldn't be anymore than a commission. But I really appreciate it! Any of my music if fair game for you to use, and if you need stems or music made to loop, or anything, just ask and I'll make it so.
PogoP: Thanks! I've been told a lot that I could make it a career, and it's very possible I could! I just with that taking theory classes didn't absolutely kill the mood. I'm still going to pursue this on my own.
maximumsproductions: Thanks, man! I have a few tracks that use some nice choral effects and choir, try Impressions of Celestial Origins, and Celestial Origins Extended Battle Theme.
Thegodzero: high five!
PyrZern: Wow, thanks! I'll let you know when I release an album, I'll post it in this thread.
Memory, Erik Rading, Iciban: Thanks so much, guys!

Makkon, your art both 2D and musically is awesome. Keep it up duder :]

/end mod mode
Awesome stuff Makkon, I love it all, but you already know that =p If you ever happen to have time I would love to see some process or tutorial videos.
Anyways, keep up the great work!
also make an effort to move off C so you dont end up with a narrow sound/feel to your stuff, shifting your fingering around a bit helps you explore.
and grab this pdf(not that you need it):http://www.scribd.com/doc/5220863/Ravenspiral-Guide-to-Music-Theory
hmm, that link blows, try this one:http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=162135&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
