I really love the mix of simplicity and detail in this, I'll definitely being staying tuned to see the fully textured version, what kind of texture style are you shooting for?
Not decided yet.. the final possible purpose of this character is to use it in a 3d game in real time (and for that it would be optimized), so i would be going for a more illustration/cartoon look.
On the other hand it might as well work with a more realistic appearance.
Been thinking about soap media , so doodled a simple soap bar, i think i´ll arrange several hanging on the side soap-on-a-rope/bunch-of-balloons style.
- Major changes to the stork, feet, wings ,beak
- Added the "Staff of balloons"
- Changed the saddle to a saddle-branch.
- Updated the hippo teeth, mouth and tongue.
I was not pleased with the overall look of the hippo (and the stork also, and... and...) , so i started to sculpt a different head.I´m aiming for a more realistic character and also for it to be an "elderly" hippo.
The body will also be "upgraded" for the more realistic look, skin sagging on the front legs and all over the body , as it is characteristic in this animal.
So this is what i come up with , about 2 hours sculpting (for the head only ,made with Blender):
I´ve also made a paintover , to start working on ideas for the environment , will start with a "forest of the fear", ence the haunting trees:
The hippo model was an early one just to get some basic proportions...
Comments/Critics are most welcome, as i´m looking for ways to improve the main character´s appereance.
Small adjustment... made some ridges in front of the face to insert whiskers.
First attempt at direct mesh painting.
Removed clothing items, and added modified back feet.
Made small adjustments to the glasses frame in order to allow anchoring on the back of the ears.
That's really cool, I kind of want a statue of your hippo on my desk. I think the glasses might need to be a bit closer to the eyes though.
Thanks! This is still very much WIP and as still a lot to go. most of the hippo is made of different parts and not a complete and whole mesh , i´m just posting as i go along.
And yes i´ll try to place the glasses a bit closer, my initial idea was to accent the "old professor look" thus the glasses so far.
Time for another update, perhaps the last in this small "hippopotamus" adventure.
The competition has finished and i was able to barely submit my entry in time :
Although unfinished i will have to call this one done after spending almost every bit of free time in this project since August or so working on hippo variants, as you can check through my blog.Time for me to move on to another project.
I also decided to release the related blender file and variants through my blog
So cheers everyone ! I´ll keep bugging everyone with my humble attempts
Well , school is over (YEEEEAHHH!) , so i thought of sharing the last project for one of the disciplines - Introduction to Design. The objective was to make ilustrations of short Portuguese traditional sayings. Here is the outcome, with the saying underneath, plus my atempt at translation (this is my literal translation, probably it is diferent in native English at least):

Been updating several thingys :
Q/C welcome
Ps - Excuse my poor english - not native writer
I´ll try to model it next with lowpoly geometry :
On the other hand it might as well work with a more realistic appearance.
Any suggestions ?
In the meantime a preview of the model:
