After reading through most of the threads it looks like the designs should be kept closer to the story of the character than I thought. In that case I am shifting this idea. I think I will do more of an organic armor set with wood, rope, and bones. Maybe closer to a Mayan emperor and leave the Halloween pumpkin thing behind. Concepts to be posted soon.
edit: Also could a mod change my thread title to "Wood and Bones" instead of "Pumpkin King"?
General idea noted I also found sticking to the "stories", better.

Sigh not digging this idea anymore. I'm not sure about this wood thing. I think I am going to go on another path. I am thinking an old dirty broken version of traditional king's armor.
Liking this idea way more than the previous one! I think there's some pretty cool stuff you could pull off with his cape at the moment, especially with how much more royal it looks than the standard set. Maybe add some sort of crest that's ruffled in the back? I'd also suggest that you try to incorporate just a few bone pieces in to the sword, based on the base mesh. Keep it up!

Here are some doodles from my sketch book. I've been busy so I am eager to start blocking these out in 3d.
