Any comments so far? For me this is a learning experience, first time creating a model for a game, and while i love dota, i've just been playing for 3 months, so if this has been done already, or if you think it doesnt fit the character or the game, or think it's too simple (altough i think thats why i like witch doctor, he's very 'readable') let me know! Thx.
Cool idea, nice sculpt, but it looks a bit bland. Maybe instead of "JUST" a bone, he could have decorated it? Even if it's just tribal markings in fingerpaint. Another thing would be to make the bottom kinda worn off since it gets dragged across the floor 24/7.
Hey Spudnik, there is no texture yet. I have an idea about painting the top of the bone as a skull, or like he painted it as a giraffe I have to do some mockups.
But he sure would have decorated it, so thats what i'm going to do.

Yup, thats why part of the bottom broke off
EX4000. Thanks. I like the fact it's as big as it is now, the bones of some giant. I tried to make it as big as possible, while making sure it would fit his both hands when he holds it. A weapon made out of different bones has been done for a lot of characters, i wanted to try something else for witch doctor.
Nice! Yeah, I totally should have caught the broken off part, now that you said it, it's very obvious ^^' Guess I gotta brush up on my Anatomy.
I love the idea of a skull painted on the top, not only design wise but also because it'll be very visible to the game camera and the player will see it a lot
I think the scale is great, will look awesome from the in-game perspective, and very recognizable. Maybe make the grip wrappings more pronounced and some tethers.
Looking good man.
I would make the bottom part of the bone staff smaller the weight of the entire staff as of now looks way to heavy for this character to be carrying around.
Love the bone idea! Definitely do agree that the bottom of the bone should be chipped, more faceted and show obvious signs of being drug around day in and day out. Paint and voodoo patterns will really sell it.
its a nice idea but i think the scale of the weapon compared to the size of wd makes him look simply imbalanced
maybe shrink the width of it and add some decours and items hanging out of and and carvings
Thank you for all the comments.
I checked the walk animation and it looks fine, it doesnt feel imbalanced.
His hands, arms, and shoulders are huge.
He wouldn't have a problem with this staff imho.
here are some fast sketches/ideas for the head.
I love the simplicity of nr.3, and lots of surface for texture details.
This is incredible! I absolutely love the bone you'd sculpted. Although I'd agree with a few of the comments on here, it could possibly be shrunken down just a tad. The long mask you've sculpted is beautiful as well. Very African and a wonderful shape that'd be easy to read in game.
Thanks for the comments!
Have some other ideas for the head, but after some sleep i like the lion again. Will work on the other ideas, and have to think about the belt.
That makes witch doctor look like some form of weird flower. Looks too goofy.
haha probably true. Just trying some different things, and posting the good as well as the bad. you never know where you end, thats what i like about this stage
Yeah i was thinking about that, would be cool to have the tail dragging behind him.
Keep the comments comming, i realy appreciate them and they help me finding a direction to take this.
Last idea of the day. Raw sketch, just to see if it could work.
It fits the bones theme, but i'm not sure i should make every item fit the that theme, might look kinda 'cheap'.
Lots to think about..

Will try to make a decent preview of the different ideas i have for the texture.

.. sorry, had to say it
But I agree with the previous comments, maybe see if you can have some decorations that add some extra geometry if there's space in the budget for it.

I like the idea of a bone themed witch doctor. Looking forward to how the rest of the set works.

Agreed. What if you elongate the feathers, and reduce the count by like 60% and place them more randomly?
