Goddamnit Valve, they got my hopes up again with that little intro paragraph... Now I'll be twitchy as fuck all week till all the winners are announced.
I see every winning entry has a bit of lore to go with it, was that a requirement? Also, was it required to upload your 1024 source textures instead of resized 256 ones? I think I may have messed up in more ways than one, heh.
I think the game engine rescales the textures automatically. I know for sure it starts complaining if your texture is a different ration than the one required, but I can't guarantee the textures get rescaled before building the package.
The textures will end up the sizes in the workshop page, so I doubt it really matters if you uploaded the big ones or not.

Oh, I know the textures get rescaled, but I seem to remember reading somewhere that they use high res textures for promotional purposes. Ah well.
yep they use bigger for promotional and after submitting my dragon they asked for the high res ones
about the compression in game what happens is that when the game starts it make an atlas off all the hero textures in one 1024 x 1024 texture, if you get an hero and start to align the textures i will see that it fit in 1024x1024, if there is any space left the hero will have a "misc" slot
that atlas is usefull to reduce draw calls and because its build on the start of the match, it can have custom items
that why we have a little lag everytime a player enters the match =]
that texture have his equivalent mip maps, if you reduce the texture resolution in the game config it goes to the 512x512 version or 256x256 version
The contest is now over but I was wondering if the "best overall," item list will be posted? As per the DOTA2 contest page:
Valve will decide the winners for theBest Overall and Top 10 Overall. The Best Overall will be given to the most stand-out item set as per Valves discretion. From there, the Top 10 Overall item sets will be announced as the winners of the Dota 2 Polycount Contest
Man there are some wacky things going on with her glossiness and spec values that maps just wont fix. Hopefully valve can fix it on their end :x I did post on their dotadev forums about it.

Somebody said to me that Valve will publish some sets that wasn't in the winners, but without extra money/polycount thingy and after new years. How true is this?

I guess I understood differently from "best overall," I thought it was going to be a list of the ones who were best from the rest, but didn't make the cut for the top 10.
Anyhow, great job on the competition Anuxi.:poly124:
I know this thread is probably closed but I'm looking to start a clinkz set and had a question. The "back" witch is the quiver shares the same texture as the arrow but you can't make your own arrow because the budget for the back isn't big enough for that. Does that mean that when I make the back I need to use the Same UV space as the current one so that the arrow will keep it's original texture. I presume I will also need to include the arrow texture in my own texture.
someone help me with the cover of the sniper ? The animation does not work properly , or simply does not work , already tested in several different bones. Is there any special tips? I'm using blender

yep, they are sadists..
Maybe it would have been better with one winner for each hero *.*

great set, as usual =]
"We have no doubt that a very large number (if not a large majority) of the sets contributed in the course of the contest will eventually be incorporated into the game. If your favorite entry didnt win, dont despair. There are enough great items here that we will see entries ship for the foreseeable future."
