Red Sand: A Mass Effect Fan Film

Hey all,

At long last we've finished our fan film project. It's a film made almost entirely of students in the Digital Video program at UAT, with the help of some alumni. Please check it out, and feel free to leave your thoughts here or on the page.

I'll be posting a VFX breakdown in the coming weeks once I get a chance to take a breath and cut up the work I did. Here's the generic press release with info:

"Hi all!

Sorry for the blanket email. Thank you all for your support of RED SAND: a Mass Effect fan film in the past, and now we are very pleased to announce that the film is complete and is being released to the Internet tomorrow, Sunday October 7th, at 4:30 pm MST. The link to the final film is:

Please don’t share it until after 4:30 pm MST on October 7th.

At 4:00 pm MST we will be having a Live Pre-Show with Mark Meer via Google Hangouts. We’ll be posting the link to the live video feed on our Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/MassEffectRedSand

Please feel free to tune in to the pre-show and/or let me know if you’d like to join the Hangout. My apologies for the late notice on this, we have literally been cramming to get the last couple of tweaks done in time for tomorrow’s events.

Thanks again for all your support!"

I don't know what it is exactly, but some parts had the original Tron movie vibe. You've got some nice effects going on here.

Cons: some annoying shots where you just can't see the area/action and the Wilhelm scream.

Thanks for the feedback! We worked on essentially zero budget for the production/post production, and being mostly student made there are definitely some shots that were done better than others. But we tried hard to make a product that people would enjoy, and so far the response has been overwhelmingly positive.

If you're having issues with darkness, the film is a bit dark, but it should be completely viewable. We had to adjust the gamma for what we thought would be the average monitor, so if you've tweaked yours (or just like it generally darker) you'll have a harder time seeing it. You could try adjusting your gamma to correct it, but the detail should be there.

As for that damn Wilhelm scream; it has become a staple of our director, and while it's a little cheesy, it's in every film he makes, so this was no exception. We tried to throw a few easter eggs in there where we could.
