So I'm working on a cathedral for my portfolio and I was wondering what would be a realistic poly count for production in a modern gaming engine?

The modeling is about 75 per cent done but I'm not sure what I can get away with from here on out. The inspiration for the cathedral is Maria Laach. A Romanesque cathedral in Germany. I've always though it was very beautiful and as you can see from the screengrab I've made a lot of compromises but I want to bring back some things I changed and change some things I added.

Right now it's at just under 40,000 and that's pretty well optimized. No hidden tris and most problem pieces already hand triangulated.

    A shaded view of both the front and back would be nice.

    But more importantly some of the major features deviate from the original.
    Three towers have a roof cone with several sides, and one has diamond shaped sides. I gotta go but I'll be back to add more.

    Yeah I know. This isn't a modeling feedback thread. I was asking about the max ply count that a structure like this would be built at for a game engine.
    I've already done this guy before in full poly glory but lost it over the course of several cross country moves and hard drive crashes. In deciding to redo it I've made the decision to make it a game asset so I'm making un-informed guesses as to what I must or must not change. But I'm fully aware of the architectural features of this particular cathedral.

    There is no straight up answers to how many true, it depends on a hell of aot of things.

    Well on the plus side I found out that all the stuff I did to reduce the poly count actually increased it... level up

    With LOD I think I can keep it between 20,000 and 60,000 and stay much more faithful to the orginal design. Though it is not my goal is not to entirely copy it. It's more like a base for a mashup.
