First time posting here at Polycount. Thought I share with you guys a hardsurface model I`ve been working on in Zbrush. Let me know what you guys think! Hopefully this will be the first of many posts. Yay!
Thanks for the feedback Bek! It was all Zbrush R4 from start to finish. I plan on taking the model all the way to the unreal engine. So yeah, next step will be lowpoly-ing!
Are you going to retopo this in 4r4? I made a gun all in Z back in 4r3 and the retopo tools for hard surfaces were not that great (crashed a lot)... If so, please let me know how you like the new retopo tools. Great job!
You did a great job there, hard surface modeling in zbrush is really fun and fast when you get the hang of it! Personally i would retopo in 3ds for this kind of prop. Retopo tools are great in zbrush, i but i usully use them more for organic props.
Keep us posted!
Thanks guys! Those where exactly my thoughts. I'll take it into max for retopo. I have played with some of Zbrush's tools and, like Kon Artist said, they seem to work better with organic models.
I would be interested in seeing how you made this.
Doesn't zbrush autmatically record all your movements? Would it be possible to upload the file or record it to video?
Thanks a bunch guys! I'll work on that FPview once I get the chance for sure Pedro Amorim. Regarding the technique I used Kon Artist: It was mostly Dynamesh subtract (I'd say about 80% of the model used this technique, the rest was all clipping brushes) You can find all about it in Zbrushcentral, in the series of videos about the picatinny rail, I believe they are still in the front page of the site, really handy.
It's pink, and it's a glock... but other than that... ok, ok, jk it is pure awesome.
Mind sharing what software/tip used to bake the normals. I'm currently working on a rifle and just feel I don't get the depth out of them I should. Thanks.

What are your plans for this model, going to make a low poly and bake it down, or was this just for fun/practise?

Really nice hard-surface work there, especially being done in Z.
