3DS Max 2013 - Textures are wrong colours

Hello there, i am a programmer starting to get working on 3D in order to not be dependant on someone else. As such, i am not familiar with alot of in-depth 3D shizzles.

I've created a model the other day of an anchor and it turned out great!

And today i started on another model that goes along with the first one, a boat!

But this time the textures are not as great as the first one. Just starting out i noticed that something was wrong with the colouring and that i could use some help.

It's all wrong! I tried searching to some extent, but since i am not that good and settled in with all of this, i am unsure of what to search for. I tried terms such as "3DS Max 2013 textures are wrong colours" and "3ds max texture issues". I really don't know what to do really.

Could someone please explain to me what is causing this issue and what i can do to solve it?

    I got help yeseterday, about 2 hours after this thread was created.

    Apparently my texture file needed to be 8-bit but it was saved as 16. Or was it the other way around?
    anyway, it is solved! Thanks for your time!
