If you enable the wireframe, does it still happen? If it shows fine with wireframe, I have the same bug, but usually just using a mental ray shader fixes it.
Could be backface culling, this usually happens with the the cad models i work with in max's viewport. Sometimes even with backface culling turned on it still does it, but it renders fine
You should try fiddlign around with your viewport clipping.
activate it with right clicking on your viewport name and click it on.
then there will be sliders at the edge of the respective viewport
