Hey everyone. I have this Blastoise model made in Maya and would really like to get some critiques on it please. I plan to take it to Zbrush and rig it later. Any comment is much appreciated, thanks!
I'm guessing this is not gonna be a cartonny Blastoise but a realistic one? If not, he's arms looks way to human. They are pretty much just 3 "spheres" with 3 claws attached. He's legs are waaay to tall, He's a turtle not a human. I have no clue what's going on with the stomach, are those supposed to be abs? He's way to small for, fatten him up. He's ears are to small, he's gun looks odd. Gun coming out of a gun coming out of a gun?
Thanks for the comment Tekoppar.
I want to go half real half cartoony, but more towards real. I'm trying to find a nice middle where I can get a buff blastoise. I was hoping his arms would get their definition form the texture work. Though yea, they do look like spheres now that you mention it. I should work on them more to get a better form. I know the original blastoise has shorter legs but I'd rather keep this guys legs where they are, I'll play with that idea though to see if I like it. The original blastoise has three horizontal pieces that make up his frontal shell, I thought that would be boring in 3D. So I gave him pectorals and the abs are a mix of the horizontal pieces and the shape of human abs. I could increase the size of the ears by a bit, but his ears are small and pointy. For the gun, I wanted to give him retracting cannons. So each piece or "gun" would come out the other. I plan on animating this guy later, the retracting cannons seems like a fun idea to me.
Oh and the Blastoise chrisundrum did looks sweet. I wish GameFreak would come out with a 3Ds version in the style he has.
jeroenbackx's turtle looks awesome too, I will check more of his stuff out.
Thanks.

Here's a really good Blastoise made by chrisundrum
He's thread
If you are taking on a more realistic approach you should take some inspiration from jeroenbackx
he's thread It's not a Blastoise but it's a really good approach on a turtle with a gun and just looks bad ass.
