This look awesome , i really love it .. you should put some light source there so you can make a
good lighting for the scene maybe using a blue like the moon light and puting some yellow lightsource like candle or something will help alot.
ya a slimier wetter look to most of the materials would make a big difference. Adding a few polys to the roundness of the egg might help make it look less low poly as well Tapering the fingers of the facehugger and making them a bit sharper will make it look a little bit more lethal as well. Try to keep the bulges in the joints, but in between make them thinner. Don't be afraid to add more polys as well, some of it looks like you were trying to keep it really low and it just ended up making your silhouette look a little low poly. Like this:
Adding some color definition to the egg would help as well.
Is the tail 3 sided? Try making it 5 or 6 to round it out a bit making it look higher-res.
Something is really wrong with this... Its almost like the whole thing is vertex lit? Your normals should be fine, but they are just not popping at all? Might be the spec, or the light?
As usual, people in this forum gives great feedback, thanks guys!
ayoub44, good idea!
lincolnhughes, I tapered the fingers now, and it's much better. And the color, well... I didn't find any good reference pictures of living facehuggers. They die, get pale and white/bleached when they've strangled people and egged them. They have a more blushed, fleshed red color when alive. But anyhow, I made it more blushed red and pale, and it looked much better than before with the previous yellow, brownish hue.
odium, thank you very much for noticing this! I had accidentally turned off the catch shadows, translucense and specular for several of the models. I also used the Cathedral ambient skybox lighting, which doesn't give any strong highlights anywhere. I made a traditional alien horror red/blue lighting set instead, and it looks much better now.
Oh, I have no clue if Weyland really grew their own alien eggs. They could have, I guess!
There's still some stuff I think could be improved upon though. Some of that white spiderwebby goo that you have on the inside of the lips could be put on the side of the egg randomly to add cool detail. Also the strand of goo connected to the facehugger that's jumping out of the egg needs to be less opaque and more subtle as well. I probably wouldn't even connect it to the facehugger, it looks too much like something that would be on a toy holding it in the air. Bending it a little and making it less straight will go a long way as well Looks really good though man!
