Maya 2012 freezing on Open/Save/Import/Project windows

After I open Maya, and go to File > Open/Save/import/Project/etc., Maya brings up said window but the box is filled with white and Maya freezes up. I've tried deleting the prefs folder and running a repair install but neither had any effect. Do I need to completely uninstall Maya?

See if this works.

Go to Window > Settings/Preferences > Preferences >
When the preferences window opens then on the left scroll down to Files/Projects
Scroll down to File Dialog
Choose dialog style as "OS native"
Save

Next time choosing the options from the File menu it should work smoothly

Tried to reply to this earlier but had to make a post in other thread before activating this...so here goes again...

Go to Window > Settings/Preferences > Preferences

When Preferences window pops up scroll down on left side to Files/Projects

On Files/Projects scroll down to File Dialog

Tick OS native

Save and close.

Next time you choose Open, save etc. it should work smoothly.

I was just having the exact same issue, on a project where I have to work between Maya and other programs, and this problem was starting to cause me to pull my hair out. This fix worked a charm, huge thanks.

Actually, this breaks your standard FBX export options.  It gives me two alternatives "Fbx" and "DAE FBX," neither of which include my standard FBX preset settings that I need to adjust.

Man, this is years later. have both the 2014 and 2018 and up until today never had an issue and just started freezing maya when I opened the import or save dialog. Thx Dave, very much appreciate the answer and thanks to Polycount for keeping this up here.
