Hi, I'm really not trying to be a dick, I'm just really new to this website and to 3D modeling in general.

So for my homework, I am supposed to be unwrapping an organic model, a large dog/beast. I have been learning about proper modeling procedure (proper packing/number of seams/distortion, etc.) but I can't seem to find the specific tutorials to actually physically open my model in 3DS Max and properly unwrap it.
I know that I need to add an "Unwrap UVW" modifier to my model, but what then?
If anyone has any links to a good tutorial that shows me a solid way of actually unwrapping an organic model I would really appreciate it!!!

Take it as a sign that learning outside of school / uni is essential in order to be any good. A school alone won't qualify you alone for a professional career imo.
But your larger point is, of course, correct. School is to get the piece of paper that will allow you to get hired (in some cases). Relevant knowledge will come from self teaching and on the job experience.
