mudbox pixated texture

Hello, mudbox beginner here

How to get smooth paint result from mudbox? is it the subdivision level or the texture size?

And when my subdivision level gone over 500000, mudbox will lag and sometimes crash.. I am making it for 3d animation, it the subdivision level overkill?

thanks

paint is based on the resolution you are painting at so its pixels. its not like zbrush which is based on polys. you wouldnt animate something with that many polys from mudbox, youd want to decimate it before trying to animate. i know zbrush has a decimation master and there are some other programs which do that. doing high poly stuff in mudbox is strictly for creating the physicality of what you are making.

I am only using it for texture painting for mudbox, not really modifying the mesh.

But are you saying that i dont need to increase the subdivision levels to paint?? if it's true, it is indeed different from zbrush...

No you don't need to be at higher poly counts in order to paint textures in Mudbox. Although you would have to subdivide twice or three times as there is some bug you get when texture at too low of a polycount in Mudbox.

If using PTEX, make sure you really step up the resolution - it'll bake down crappily otherwise.
