anyone seen this movie? He's basically the top example of a modern day pure "artist". His philosophies shows what dedication and hard work can achieve.

It's an extreme example, he admits he wasn't much of a father to his children as they grew up, but he mirrors so many qualities of the classical great masters that lived and breathed their work, Da Vinchi and Michelangelo for example. An hour away from their work was wasted time.

It shows the sheer amount of work you must put into your craft to be the best in the world at something. 99% of people do not have the willpower to do this, but it shows that greatness come with constant and persistant dedication.

"Yoshikazu and the apprentices (the ones that make it for more than a day or two, anyway) are paragons of patience and dedication. There is a scene in which one of the apprentices talks about spending four years working on perfecting tamagoyaki (egg sushi). Every day, for four years, he would make tamagoyaki and have Jiro tell him what was wrong with it, how bad it was, and to do it again. Finally, one day, Jiro tasted the tamagoyaki, said, “It’s good. That’s how it should be done.”.

The same can be said about any craft.

Saw it on VOD. It's pretty good.

I also recommend the documentary for the legendary cinematographer Jack Cardiff.

Re: Jiro, one thing I learned...sucks to be a sushi apprentice for Jiro. He'd make you massage octupus tentacles for an hour by hand.

How they made egg sushi looks harder than it should be too. Why use chopsticks to flip that omelette slab when they could've just used a another tray, lay it on top and flip? I doubt it would taste different.
