I'm trying to do a sketch a day to get myself back in practice. This won't be a place for great art but more of a record of my progress.
You can critique if you desire, I need all the help I can get.
Trying to kep up with my sketch a day promise to myself. It's a real quick one for a SciFi soldier that's been rolling around my head. It reminds me of the Halo Marine too much in this state.Imight take this onhe a bit further and actually finish it later.
I'm finding I can get my concepts down but I'm such a noob at the photoshop tools that I can't get a good finished product.
I'm checking out the idrawgirls video tutorials and also looking at the FZD tutorials on youtube, but it's slow progress.
Things so far are looking pretty soft, lacking distinction of form. You need to start thinking of things in planes, as a collection of surfaces. Polycount is one of the best places to learn this (at least, for me it has been), because folks here are constantly showing work that essentially breaks down the middle steps of taking a 3D object and displaying it in a 2D space.
conte had some interesting posts/small tutorials in his sketchbook about a year ago that might help you out with this. Here they are:
Thanks for the links Two Listen. I'm aware that everything is soft, I'm just doing quick little sketches to get back in practice and learning Photoshop tools. There isn't supposed to be anything near finished yet, as my skill level precludes doing high quality work at this time.
Something that would really help is to study anatomy and draw through. Look through the comprehensive work done in disney life drawing courses, and the drawing manual of Glenn Vilppu.
Thanks for the advice. I'm already studying anatomy and figure drawing on my own but more information is always welcome.
One question about what you said. What do you mean draw through?
This sketchbook idea is frustrating and embarrassing to me. My skill level is not at the point where I can get the results that I want at all, but as a visual diary it may help track improvement. I'm hoping that with feedback I get from he Polycount members I can progress a bit faster. It's going slow though, too many other commitments in life to practice as much as I want.
First ever head sculpt. I know it's not finished but it's mainly for practice.
Considering it's my first head sculpt ever, I'm happy with how well it turned out in the limited time I worked on it. . Looking at this from all views really sinks in the idea that I need to study anatomy more.
OMG my old work is atrocious. I stopped doing any art and 3d for quite some time. Trying to get back into this. Posting my past months progress after starting again.
