Textures becoming Soft! :(

Hi there!

I got a Problem with all Big Textures, downloaded from cgtextures!

I gonna scale them down to fit my UV Isle, but then they´re becoming soft.
nothing left of the sharp hi res look :(

What im doin wrong?

My workflow is like this:

1. Open Photoshop with my UV Diffuse Layout
2. Open HiRes Texture
3. Select the right UV Isle
4. Paste the Hi Res Texture in the before selected UV Isle
5. Transform ´em down to fit the Isle and the Edges...

And then when they´re scaled down whit transform mode they become soft.

i want that nice sharpness back! Possible?

    You're scaling textures down using photoshop from high resolution to low resolution, and you're not sure why they are now low resolution and not high resolution? I think it's because you're scaling them down from high resolution to low resolution :)

    I think you may need to use higher resolution textures for your model, if that's what's going on. What's the scale of the texture you're moving to? Sharpening the texture will help a little, but not enough to make it look high res at all. You also could make the wood a tiling texture so you get more bang for your buck.

    Agree with Kurt, but also want to add, have you considered doing a tileable texture of 512x512px and tile over your model? Tiling you get much more resolution!

    If you use Resize Image function (Under Image if I recall), you get the dialog box, and with it you got an option called Resample Image. If you scale down, you should put this one at Bicubic Sharper, and it should help sharpen your image when you scale it. If you got it on Bicubic Smoother its going to be blurry.
