I appear to be a new person on these here boards. You see I'm quite confused that I've not noticed this forum before, I've been lurking around the Blender Forums for a few months as I've fairly recently gotten in to game design through helping a friend of mine develop a fairly ambitious open-world sandbox RPG indi game using the UDK involving lots of cool 'magic' based stuff like altering electrostatic charge, mass, temperature e.t.c. The basic premise consisting of the ability to alter the physical properties of the world, (almost everything being intractable) Forging your own unique spells based on a progressive character development system, crafting, and a lot of procedurally generated content in terms of climate, ingredients, factional interplay and lots of other stuff. Ambitious! Though all of that is not my doing, I'm the 'art guy', having more of a history in the creative industry, than my friend who's the code guru and mastermind of the project.
It's been quite a ride to be honest and I've learned a lot over the past couple of months being the only person tasked with coming up with a the vast majority of art assets for the game. Primarily using Blender, Gimp and various other applications for asset creation.
Which brings me here, on my endless semi-coherent shamble through cyber space in an attempts to tame the beast that is this unintuitively vast subject of game design. I've read through a couple of threads that caught my eye and have picked up enough of a vibe to realize that this is pretty much the place to be in terms of having one's thumb on the pulse, not to mention the notable balance between informal cheeky banter and focused, educated critique.
So it's seems I may be here to stay for the time being, you'll find me lurking in a corner somewhere jotting furiously in my trusty notepad and one day maybe I'll know some of you quite well,
so here's to then...
Peace.
