Hello, polycounters!
Starting a new character WIP. Decided to make a more or less realistic Templar. Here is what I have so far. He is wearing a haubrek, chain mail gloves and "pans". On top he will have a white tunic, cloak with red crosses. Also I plan to make tophelm, shield, sword, spear and a horse. Will try to make a rig for him and the horse.
Thanks in advance for any c&c.

Yes I was in fact experimenting and going for heroic proportions. I guess that will make him slightly stylized.
And I did start with the body and build the armor on top , but of course all the details were lost when building the armor. Still only learning the anatomy, so if you see any major mistakes, please let me know.
Ill definitely correct the head. Thanks for suggestions!
Hands are actually chainmail gloves.
The other option is make them mittens (not sure if its the right word):

After I put chainmail pattern on glove shaped.... glove - Ill see how it looks, and may do the mittens if it doesn't look good enough.
Would love to hear any suggestions.
One thing I am not sure about is: can I make the cloak 2-sided or do I have to double polygons (with shell for example) to create little thickness? What is the standard way of making things like it?
Made helm and sword. Thinking about moving to low poly soon.
Please c&c!
Here is my progress. Started working on the horse.
Let me know what you think.
(Here's the link, the image is quite big, don't want to clutter your thread!)
Added some minor changes to the guy and made horse gear and polished some things. At this point I am sill not sure if I will model in fine details or simply put them directly on the texture.
Let me know what you think.
The horse is looking pretty good to me, especially around the head.
You are right, I was wondering why this chainmail looks like a sweater - now I see that its probably too tight...
No time to work on personal projects at all
But am determined to finish this one. I actually lost all my previous WIPS - somehow got deleted off my harddrive. So I had to almost do everything from scratch.
Let me know what you think.
the chain mail looks like crocheting

maybe a diff pattern?
Only thing which looks a bit weird to me are his gauntlets.
I know it's a pretty small detail, but plate gauntlets on top of chainmail looks unrealistic and they should go more towards the ellbow.

Edit: Nevermind, I just saw you removed them in your latest WIP
Indeed looks much better yeah, hands look goofy now indeed
Just a personal opinion of course.
@ Turista I messed around with chainmail pattern for a while now - I dont want to have transparency there and this is the optimal pattern I came up with. I think it will look better after texturing.
Yeah no gauntelts - I decided to keep it simple on the hands. Will work on general shape to make it less goofy
The_Blenderer - it makes sense - I think hell just have a tophelm without the "kaffeia".
A buddy coworker gave me some good tips on the cloak and the robe - primarily folds, as well as the face. So I will keep working until I get it right.
Thanks
Here is a fresh update. Experimented with chainmail for a while. Decided to stop on this version. Used micromesh for it, I think this gives much better result and does not look like sweater
Changed some details, worked on folds, etc.
Next - redoing helmet and the sword. Also plan to add some detailing on the cloak and may be tunic (some stitches may be, or ornaments).
Please c&c.
Completely re-did the sword. As always, I appreciate any comments
Here is the shield - I went ahead and detailed it.
Next - detailing helmet, sword and the knight.
Please someone say something
