Liking the progress, that high poly shoulder part is pretty nicely designed. Reminds me of some retro space designs.
Also I think that something might be up with your drill, it looks a bit squished or just a little funky. Maybe take a look and see if its just a weird camera angle.
Perhaps a crystal to mine?:) Sculpting in some dents and worn out edges here and there should make this one look more believable,A SCV is a workhorse afterall.Looks cool though as it is.
I like the idea of creating a turntable/crystal setup for him, I'll defo throw that in there Will try to get him into zbrush 2day for some damage painting
Wow, this looks awesome! The high poly is pretty sweet. I'm not sure I care for some of the ZB damage though, like I'd expect to see more scratches and stuff, and less of the indents that look a little bit mushy and like he is made of clay or something. But maybe that's just me :poly134:
Thanks! The normal came out a bit strong so took it back a bit. Scratches will be done with diffuse and Specular mostly. I'd need a lot more subdivisions for proper scratches and my pc was already dying at this point I'll take it the normal stuff into consideration after checking the outcome with a diffuse /spec texture.
I still see a lot of errors everywhere that I still want to work on.
But I got the result through Xnormal. Rendered an AO + Convexity map. Multiplied the green (or red channel cant remember) of the convecity map over the AO..gonna help a bit with painting damage later on as well.
(After about 6 people telling me to do a rainbow texture one on fb), most votes went to yellow;
wip texture
To do;
- Need to do a rebake on the shoulder, detail doesn't translate
- rebake the drill, probably diffuse only is the best for this part (no normal/ao like I tried before)
- Make a proper specular, emissive texture.
- work on a material for the glass.
- Make a diffuse for the grey metal parts
- Scratches in specular
Fixed the glass parts, added a torn off terran logo, updated the material with some yellow details and added particles, time to create some crystals for these guys to mine!
ok, so I guess I can share this now. Some time ago I finished this Starcraft 2 fanart piece, then months later a 3d printing company (makeit3d.com) contacted me asking if I could work with them on creating a 3d print of the SCV model I made. I tweaked the model a lot so it was fit for 3d printing, and created an entire new model for them (A probe, also from SC2). They also liked an older fan art model I did, a house from World of Warcraft, so they printed that as well. Later I found out that it was actually a present to Blizzard and the statues were given to the blizzard staff during Blizzcon!
The WoW style house, not really starcraft related but screw it
And last, a screen from the original 3d probe model in UDK..no materials, since the print would only need a diffuse I baked most info into that. The (color)/ resolution wasn't gonna be able to pick up a lot of detail at that scale so I made the texture rather simple with basic shapes/colors. Perhaps I'll pimp this 3d model some day
(Diffuse only: )
(Unlit: )
Had a lot of fun with the project, and really cool that makeit3d also send me the statues

Doonhinkun > Thanks, trying to stay close to the original model cause I just love it
Update;
working on the body, added the boosters.
After doing all the parts I'm planning to go through them all a couple of times and add additional detail.
Sunday night progress. Realising how much time I should be putting into this now, and how much time I actually have. But will defo finish this!
Really wanna finish the high poly this weekend but I feel like it's missing something still
Thats it for me this weekend, I'm out!

A top down screenshot might be more recognizable
Messing around with lights always great fun!
so many images
more definition into the drill
Still searching for a nice material solution for the glass..
I like the blue one personally!
