Ive noticed in recent prodjects the baked normals given to me by Xnormal are more favorable than 3ds max the bigger package. the normals just with max seem to be "dirtier" than Xnormal, although it can still handle some tasks effectively. is this because I used cages in max and Xnormal, as far as I can see, does'nt use cages?

You can export a cage for XNormal.

You can either set up a projection mod, and leave it on, and export via SBM (make sure to click on Low Mesh) in Max OR, you can export you LP mesh, and then use the same mesh (just make sure it acts like a cage, push it around and stuff) and export that as an OBJ or something, and import it as a Cage in XN (you should see the option of importing a cage next to the LP).

And the 8M guys recommend using XNormal for baking out the Normal Maps for Marmo.

AFAIK, Marmoset still uses the old Tangent space that was used in xNormal before Jogshy added mikktspace
Luckily it is still a very good match to marmoset though :)
