Very disheartening. Neil was a true patriot, explorer and man of science. He helped pioneer spaceflight, walked on the moon and aided in the design all of the procedures that are still used to this day by NASA. What an incredible individual. The human race has lost a small piece of itself today.
Ah, man! One of my recent models was of Armstrong's Apollo 11 suit. In doing research for that project, I gained such a stronger respect for the accomplishment of spaceflight and the moon landing. Personally, I know I took all of that stuff for granted, being born 20 years after it all first went down, but I hope others of my generation appreciate the contributions this man and his team made to science and mankind.
Flying to the moon in what amounts to a tin can with the processing power of a calculator (if that).. how can you not respect him and his colleagues. Rest in Peace Mr. Armstrong.
Sad to hear. Still, 82 isn't a bad run and I wonder if anyone will leave such a mark on human history again. I was just at the Kennedy Space Center last month and got a better understanding of what an acoomplishment this feat was. "Walked on the moon" is not something many people would be able to put on their tombstone.
