Hey lovely folks
!
As the title of the thread reads, is it possible to isolate selections in viewport 2.0 somehow (
Maya)? I love working in it (unlike a lot of individuals!) Even with the different viewport modes hotkeyed, it becomes mildly irritating to jump between them just to isolate selections (bordered edges have different colours too in the different modes and it can all get a little 'discombobulating' at times.)
ANY workaround (like some sort of script) which I can make that I can later hotkey myself would be completely amazing...
Please let me know if you have any solutions or ideas!

What you could do is script something where you select the faces and the script switched to default rendering, isolates and goes back to viewport 2.0. Also the old assign a material with alpha of 0 might work though hacky.
It's still evident in 2012 (the version I'm on). When you go to default quality rendering and isolate an object and then switch back, it renders the entire object. Your workaround was one of the first things I considered, but unfortunately I don't think it's a workaround which solves the issue .
