So recently i have noticed tat some people have models of popular characters, in their portfolio for example, Sith lords, The main guy from game of thrones (sorry i havnt watched much yet).

My main question is, is this an ok thing to do for an employer, as long as you very sucessful, with the model?

For example, let's say i modeled, Notre Dame, or possibly, a Zelda inspired character, or Even a storm trooper from star wars?

I think it might actually be a good thing to do, as long as you have some original artwork on there as well.

Try to give your own twist to the subject!

If you are not a concept artist, your job will be to reproduce things, not create them. So, showing to your future employer that you know how to reproduce things is a good deal.

But it doesn't mean that you can take any concept art and reproduce it, because of all the copyrights and author stuff. The best is to contact directly the artist if you know his e-mail and ask him the permission ( a written permission is the best ), I think they generally accept. Of course if it's a really popular thing like a Storm Trooper, I think you don't need that. I'm not sure that George Lucas will answer ^^.

As Stefan said, giving your own point of view on the model can be cool too, like Hazardous did with Chun-Li, or Fletcher did with Luigi and Mario.
