i have followed the instructions and it works fine for about half an hour and then i get this message

INTERNAL ERROR.\List.cpp Line: 155 and 165
Locked main mem in list-out

i really cant figure out what the issue is and was wondering if its something anyone has come across

im wondering if its a memory issue as iv checked the task manager and it comes very close to using all 8 gigs of ram when i working the model

Not sure what specific memory issue that is, but keep in mind that zBrush is still a 32 bit program, which means it can't use more than 3-4 gigs of your system's memory. It's likely that zBrush is just running out of memory if you are working with a very dense mesh. Try to lower the subdivision level you are working on or split the mesh into several subtools or polygroups that you can show or hide. Snapping topology to a complex surface is a very processing and memory consuming process so you should free up as many resources for zBrush as possible.

Alternatively just get 3DCoat. The free trial version has all its topology functions unlocked and its retopology tools are far superior to zBrush's.

    thanks
i was wondering if it was running out of memory.
I tried lowering the subdiv level but it still seemed to crash
i will try 3dcoat anyway and go from there.

thanks for brining some closure to the problem.

i tried researching the error but I could only find one other case and that was caused by a completely different process and had no solution posted im afraid

you might want to consider getting your license up to date (its free). its at least 3-5 downloads old now, and there are better retopo tools

Got half way through retoping an object, no slow down or memory issues and using 4r5, then had the error mentioned above (only difference is the 'Line:xxx' numbers which appear in multiple error windows)

Tried deleting all my other subtools, resaving to a new *.ztl, restart machine and zbrush, with no joy. Seems to be a problem with that particular tool. I can draw 2 topology lines that intersect, but adding a third will cause the crash :(

Anyone else had this or know a fix? Cheers.

    Error in zbrush list.cpp Line:172

detect the "screwed" sub tool by clicking on any

sub tool you have to determine which one causing

problem. You will know that you ran into bad one

because memory pop up screen will pop whenever you

try to do something on that tool, if you change sub

tool which is ok you will work normal without pop

up. It will also apear when you try to save your

    piece.

first clone your "bad" subtool, then save it as a

separate file, then delete bad sub tool from your

project and then append saved sub tool back to

    your project.

That ninjicu worked for me ;)
