Greetings polycounters! This is my first post on the site as well as my first foray into 3D.

Here's my concept for an animated short I want to put together. The short follows the mailer daemon as he has to return badly addressed mail.

This is my first sculpt in zBrush and I'm quite pleased. I used dynamesh after importing a very basic base mesh. Retopology images below.

So my concern is many of the quads I have are bent and could cause lighting issues, right? These images are at subD density 1, so this model could be game ready. At density 2, a lot of the bent quads are smoothed out, and I feel like I'd use that level of detail for my short. I figure I'll unwrap the subD 1 version and use the same UVs for the subD2 version.

So, any and all feedback is appreciated, especially some tips regarding my concerns.

Thanks!

Hi and welcome to polycount. There are some things that i can see comapring you model to the concept piece that throw me off. First i would say that the face is close but still not all there. In the concept his jaw seems to come down further in the concept than what i see in your model as well the chin comes to a point where in the concept he has a a pointed cleft chin. Also i like the horns but they dont seem to be the same as in the concept i would try to stick to the concept but since its your concept art you can change the design on the fly so thats not a big deal. :) As for it being game ready i would have to disagree. I would say its a little high in the polycount. Remember when modeling for games much of your quads will be spent on the silhouette of your model not on the details necessarily. But seeing that this is for an animated short i would say your polycount is fine, just remember that polycounts for games and polycounts for films are different. Hope that helps. :) Great start so far though The character has tons of personality will be eagerly watching this thread.
