Hi everyone, soo after searching loads here and other sites, im unable to decided which is better way to make glass window.

1. Have 2 material ID and mask (for window) and make a cube map etc
2. Have the glass mesh as separate and make a cube map etc

Personaly 1 i prefer as less meshes i have to play with.

Either way i have to make 2 materials cause for some reason when you change blend mode to mask in Material, UDK screw up the whole thing and the opaque areas become translucent :/.

Also some more help would be ideal on how to make reflective see through glass.

Cheers

No serious games engine out there right now does opacity sorting in 3D space, it's way too expensive as it conflicts with the whole massively parallel streaming nature of how graphics cards work now.

Either way it breaks down into two batches on the GPU. (likely instanced)
You might as well use the first method as it makes it easier to place and the renderer may be able to cull them as one in some instances making for a negligable performance increase.
