I thought it was about time I throw my hat in this ring. I've been working on this for a couple days- below are the inspiration images, anatomy, and blocked out armor. Everything is still extremely rough- just positioning where everything will go and how it looks together, but I know the deadline is looming around the corner so any feedback would be much appreciated!
So I restarted twice and made some design changes, and think I've settled on an iteration I like. More blocking and figuring out placement - I'll be starting on the retopo soon.
Ya I ended up doing the same thing (restarting) with my knight. I did a concept and everything but I should have spent more time just thinking and doing thumbnails before I finalized my character. Would like to see some closeups of this. Also I can't quite tell but it looks as though a lot of your armor is all part of one object. I would recommend creating separate subtools if that is the case.
sipher: yeah, definitely going to have to plan these things out more :P
The pieces of her armor are separate subtools, though- I have about 15 or so. If you're referring to the armor around her torso though, that is 1 which I'm cutting in half, so that she would actually be able to bend properly. I posted some shots below of the unrefined parts and the ones I have started detailing.
gemstigma: thanks! i feel ya- can't wait to get into those details myself
i'll post more closeups of the separate subtools as i start to sculpt in additional details.
Perhaps it was not your intention, but the organic roughness, the way everything conforms so tightly to her body, and you've got pieces overlapping joints that couldn't work so well for metal, I'm seeing this as leather. I'd give some consideration to finishing it as leather.
Thanks for the suggestion Tiger- I do see what you mean with everything being so fitted, but it was unintentional making it look like leather. Mayhaps the solution is to make the armor a bit looser in places?
I'll definitely look into some leather armor in the meantime though. Thanks!
More of what I have- almost done with the sculpting, just working out some kinks. I changed the bottom half of her torso armor to leather and made everything else a bit looser. Haven't been able to work on this as much as I would have liked but I have a better chance of finishing with the extension. ^^
I ran into a problem with the sheath, though- I'm using three layers with it and if I either turned off the recording on a specific layer or baked all of them, then attempted to move/rotate/mirror it, a bunch of vertices at the bottom would move instead of the entire thing. Does anyone know why that could be happening or how to resolve it?
