Texture Resolution Extremely Poor

I've currently been modelling a low poly pistol and when I came to texture it the resolution of the texture appears to be extremely low both in the viewport and in a test render. I am using Photoshop to edit the uv's, my driver is set to nitrous, I'm using 3DS Max 2013 and my graphics card is GTX 580. This is so insanely frustrating so if you can please help it'll be much appreciated!

I've uploaded an image to show what it looks like when I add a simple highlight in Photoshop to the texture than add it to the model. It goes all blurry and like marble.

would you mind also uploading the texture and a screenshot of the UV layout? I'm having a hard time figuring out what is going on from that one image, especially since you say it also happens in the render Someone else might recognize it though, just isn't ringing a bell in my head this early in the day.

EDIT: also, what sort of texture file are you using?

Hey kwshipman thanks for replying! i was just about to post the pictures and i read your edit, so i changed the file type from .PSD to .PNG and that fixed it! thanks alot for replying and just for future referrence whats the problem between max and .PSD's? do you need some kind of specific settings?

Glad you got it working. Not sure on that as I dont use PSDs in my max scenes. I always use tiffs since that is what Cryengine needs to be pointed at anyways, just makes workflow a little smoother once I export to the game. Maybe someone else will have that answer.
