Low poly characters and edge loops

Hello, I need your help on something I always have doubts with. Edges around each joints for an effective rigging and animation... How many ? for which part ?

I always have doubts on the way I have to do this correctly. I started with the website of Ben mathis, and I found some explanations ->

So, I've set this topology for the limbs (ankle and knee only), the first one you see on his tutorial (three loops). But I'm hesistating for the others joints such as fingers and etc... Is it necessary to add edges ? Or just one set to 50/50 as weight will be enough ?


You can have as well the Blend file (Yes It's done under blender) if you want to have a look.
If someone experienced could help me with this. I've created some characters, but that's always something I'm not sure how to do.
