The loop tools hidden in the Graphite toolbar have a circle thingy which works fairly well on edgeloops, though you lose some volume. The other option was to select your geometry and use the Spherify modifier.
would anyone happen to know if there is something like loop tools for maya? I know that we could use the sculpt deformer, but it doesn't always do the trick.

Also Illusion Catalyst has one that works on edges for times when you're working on a the middle of a cylinder mesh, like an arm, or a tree branch.
