Does any know how to reboot Direct x when it crashes other then restarting my computer? 3ds Max runs on this and when it crashes I can not see anything in the view-ports.

Restarting max usually fixes this problem for me, It happens to me when another application is running that is also using direct x.

Usually just restarting 3ds Max should be fine. If other programs are having problems to you may have a hardware problem.
You can always download direct x and do a repair install.
If you have an Nvidia card you can do a Clean Install.
If all else fails you can run max in openGL mode. (is that still there?)
