Animations

Greetings everyone! I've recently started animating (let's say 6 months ago?) but now I am supposed to animate with a character rig. I have recieved a biped character rig with a default animation in it.

My question here is, how can I delete this animation from the rig and start my new animations ? I don't seem to be able to find Layers manager rollout (not even in shortcuts ): ) Note I have student version of 3ds and I am nto sure whether every feature is enabled. Sorry for noobish question and accept my apologies if I've posted in wrong section.

So to clear out my question - I have a biped character rig, I am supposed to create animations, but the rig after I open it has a default animation loaded. How do I delete that and set off my new animation for the rig?

Thanks, best regards!

Click on a biped piece, click the motion tab (little wheel icon in the control panel), expand Keyframing Tools, and then click "Clear All Animation".

It is also a good habit to pop the model in and out of Figure Mode, sometimes parts like the shoulders will adjust oddly and this will reset them to the actual default figure mode pose.

If they didn't bother to set up figure mode correctly then you should, select all the pieces, hold alt, right click the viewport and choose assume skin pose. If they didn't set a skin pose you should probably tell them how much they suck and that they're doing it wrong...

Note: You can reset any piece to the skin pose which is helpful when you want to get some pieces back into a default position quickly. Also check out the copy/paste pose library features.

Also biped has its own layer manager, it had it before max ever grew one so if you're looking in the max animation layers you won't ever find any.

If you don't have keyframes but it still animates that normally means it is in motion mode (little egg beater in the biped menu) if that's the case, open the mixer (right above figure mode) and clear out the tracks and then turn off mixer mode.
