The whole GA site is down for reno right now. I know there was some talk about new/more comps but there haven't been any specific announcements about Unearthly or any of their other big comps.
I asked about unearthly or any enviro challenge awhile back and I was told that there first will be some unnamed character challenge before another unearthly challenge is even considered.
They usually have Comicon Challenge at this time of year. With GA down until Fred is done with his fiddling about which knowing him could be quite a while, perhaps we could get something rolling while we wait. Or don't wait if you're one of those Polycount or bust types.
From my understanding, GA and PC had a falling out because of GA management. So polycount started doing their own thing. Basically, if you want info on anything unearthly related, you would have to ask on GA. But all the contests that have popped up on PC over the last year or so have been to step away and do our own thing.
There was a large falling out between the communities a few years ago. As far as I know, since that time Polycount has not been involved in any of their challenges. There's nothing to stop you from participating, you just can't do it under the polycount banner.
If you look at Dominance War & Unearthly Challenge and compare them to the contests Polycount has held and how we've created & maintained them you'll see why it made sense for us to go off and do our own thing.
Fred and the folks at GameArtisans are good people doing great things for this videogame community of ours. If the UC is something you want to participate in, you definitely should. Many of the past winners have gone on to have amazing careers as 3D artists.
We have the monthly noob challenge as well, no prizes other than helping others and yourself! The major competitions always boiled down to a small percentage of artists and sidelined everyone else. The PC challenges have been much more open to collaboration and newer users.
Each major art forum is just that, it's not we're the best blah blah blah. It's a place to learn and connect with like minded people, so if you like the sound of the Unearthly Challenge, go join up! Nothing is stopping you

After all, there is no "treason" or soemthing "unethical" if you participate through another forum - the forum you "represent" in my oppinion is just a formality. I remember quite good all previous 3d finalists' entires for example, but to be honest no clue which forum they represented, because its their work that I cared to see and learn about. People sometimes post on several forums because every community has something to offer. Forum is like a web browser - a tool to communicate with peers. It's not like you are betraying your country
For instance, this time I plan to participate through ArtTalk.ru, so its where I'll have the official thread, but I also plan to keep posting my WIP "unofficially" on PC as well just to increase potential feedbacks and suggestions during my work.
Seems like participating forums this time are not very game-art oriented (beside GA), so I assume there will be more 2d entries than 3d, so we need more 3d participants
Unfortunately, I couldn't participate on any PC competitions thus far, which is kinda crazy thinking about it. Although, this UC compo comes in good timing for me actually, so I'm thinking about doing something feasible and simple.

Cancelled because Polycount is financially aware ;P

Adam's comment is absolutely true:
