I would little the background to a 50% or something so we can see your model better. I would also work on your spec alittle more. The blockout looks good so far. I would break things down more into what is the materials.

Thanks for the feedback. This is actually just the High Poly right now, so no texture or anything. The shot was actually taken inside Maya's viewport. I just threw a couple of spot lights in there I will update my final HP 2maro.
Again thanks
Then you need Viewport grabber ( if you are using max that is). you can download it from the same link i posted above. (scratch the google thing i found the link for ya).
If you dont get expected results from theese might be beacuse you dont have any textures made for the model yet. I would suggest just using the viewport grabber and a basic flat grey shader with wireframe on until you start making your textures.
EDIT: Its allso a good idea just to have a 50% grey background when presenting models. If you want to make something fancier then just make a very subtile radial gradient from the center to the edges of the picture.

Thanks alot. I actually know about Xoliul shader. The thing is I use Maya... Is there an equivalence?
that little thingy is known as a safety lever. it may be benefit you to know the things you're making. just looked into this gun and to be honest all i find is the sr-3m "Vikhr." after taking a quick look at some references, the safety lever youve made is entirely wrong. yours is meant for an Kalashnikov type weapon, this uses more of a simpler design. may want to go over that.

Thanks for the feedback. I know I took the Ak 74u as refernce for that. The thing is that i couldnt really find any close up shots.
BTW man you are a monster at modeling weapons....WOW. whats software are you using?
For a screengrab in Maya. Its kind of hard to get a good result so I normally export it out and put the model in UDK/game engine. The next option is to use the high quality render or viewport 2.0 both are so so even if you turn up the option in the option box. However its quick cause you don't have to export and import into a game engine.

itd be best to try and gather up as much reference as humanly possible for this. id think even without a closeup reference the aks74u would look way too different regardless. and thanks. i use both 3ds max and maya

when texturing anything that will be lit stick to lighter colours and midtones. only vary slightly for dimmer colours, but do not ever use black, because you get results like your getting now where the guns detail isn't visible.
it might as well be a silhouette.

Yes true. but i think its just the picture. you might wanna click on "make the picture the actual size" so you can see better. Thanks though

This is rediculous:
Lol I have to agree with this guy, it's hard to give crits when your renders are small and dark and therefore don't show the details of your model
Yeah sorry! I am a absolute NOOB and rendering. So how would you go about making a nice render like that?
LOL this is actually on 12 :P. I think it has something to do with the screen capture program I used. Sorry
Do a fast google search for 2 plugins, im guessing you are working in 3ds max or something right?
First you need a viewport shader. Like http://xoliulshader.com/ or 3 point light shader.
Then you need Viewport grabber ( if you are using max that is). you can download it from the same link i posted above. (scratch the google thing i found the link for ya).

Added that little thingy on the side plus some flooding geo.

You should be able to find refs for most guns by digging through the sites on this list: http://wiki.polycount.com/CategoryReferenceProp
