It was about damn time, considering how the former UI went all wrong. What I don't like atm. is the hidden texture packing - what if I want to combine that with another set of sprites, fonts, particles etc.
Also I hope that performance is something they kept in mind because its the most common reason for people to start writing their own UI manager.
Right, I believe they will have a setup for creating atlases and into 1 draw call just like sprite manager. If it's not, I'm not using it! :P
Well ideally it would be something that is compatible with other solutions so you can add other sprites or textures in that texture sheet too. But that makes me wonder if they will include their own UI texture packing solution within Unity.
