Hi Folks, in short:
I want good dubstep! Problem: at iTunes dubstep is sometimes in category "Dance" which speaks for itself and its just bad (free ones but also the stuff you can pay for). I like hard dubstep with good rythm/melody and i love it when they mix in some stuff i already know (like stuff from Laserkraft3D or Barbara Streisand or something like that. But it must not get too boring (noise, minimal) but also not too melodic (like sometimes drum n' base or dance).
Do you have any tips for me? Free or 2Pay (iTunes)? Also i would be really thankful about podcasts where people present new music stuff.
THX!
Here is an example which is just awesome:

this category is as badly labelled for music as "RPG" for games. I can imagine being able to 'dance' to pretty much any kind of music and yet it specifically refers to electronic beats synonymous with clubs.
I'm not too fond with it, but I really dig this set:
http://soundcloud.com/jayglo/jayglo-infectious-pr-mix
Also maybe try some early Mr. Oizo? I believe he made some proto-dubstep, but I might be wrong.
But I'm a bit confused by OP though: Laserkraft3D make techhouse/electro stuff (which is pretty good sometimes), and I can only imagine with "Barbara Streisand" he means Duck Sauce (which is house). So I'm guessing he's referring to dubstep remixes?
Can't say I'm a fan of the song in the video either (Butch Clancy - Russian Lullaby i think)...
That said, here's a little playlist in which i keep track of dubstep I currently like:
http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLB3475535F5D782A0
It's mostly very different from the WUBWUB-SCREEECH sound people associate with the genre.
Just pirate or get spotify allready.
I got well and truly fed up with dubstep the first time it was popular back in about 2005. It got played and talked up endlessly on the electronic music radio stations and TV Shows to the detriment of more interesting tracks and artists. True it didn't have the aggressive unpleasantness of some of the other style fads that popped up in the early 2000s, although the modern Bro-step incarnation comes close, but I could never see what the brouhaha was all about.
Anyway, I only dropped by to make a pithy comment, so I'll mosey along now.
but what i wanted to say was. fucken sweet mix Xoliul. cheers for sharing

I only just discovered his music this past week or so but dude's got some production skills, a lot of pretty intricate edits. I hear he gets a lot of hate in the Dubstep community though?
I don't really know a lot about the genre but I quite like the Skrillex stuff. Some of it sounds a bit more '4 on the floor' to me rather than dubstep though.
Might be missing some sarcasm but I buy CDs still. Spotify is ripping off artists, you need millions of plays to make a living. Support music, buy it. I don't want people playing my games for free so I'm not going to listen to music for free.
I like working to a bit of nero:

Yeah... haha, you could get eaten alive in some places for saying that!
To be honest I don't like him at all. He might have skills, but he tends to stick to the same gimmicky, played out kind of track all the time. The "bad" kind of dubstep in many people's opinion is the sort that seems to aim for maximum noise and screeching; it gets really hard to tell the tracks apart even in my opinion. Skrillex is pretty much the king of doing that, and he cultivates his entire image a lot on top of that, the way he looks totally puts me off as well.
And to add to that: Skrillex used to make "fidget house" which is another, earlier hype genre that rode on a similar wave of using a few gimmicks for same-sounding tracks. He then just jumped ship to the next big thing. Guess you can't blame someone for exploiting their talent for maximum fame and progit, but that doesn't mean I think his music is any good.
Listen to that playlist of mine, especially the Joker and Skream tracks are excellent examples of how Dubstep can be different, melodic and intricate without resorting to the blatant noise shock effect.
I think Skrillex is hated because he's seen as mainstream now. But he's arrived at mainstream in a VERY short space of time. I saw him last year at a festival and my friends and I were the only ones around us in the crowd who knew who he was, let alone the lyrics. A year later and I go to one of his gigs and it's the maddest thing I've been too in my life, was brutal. His original stuff is way better than his current stuff, but now he's just producing for the masses.
Kill it with fucking fire.
Not sure if its really dubstep but Burials two albums are brilliant, not just collections of tracks but bodies of work that hold together amazingly well.
I have a soft spot fro Skrillex after this image surfaced haha, they guy does have taste, even if his fans don't.
Yeah I hear you. I think that's what attracts me. I used to enjoy a lot of DC hardcore and later some screamo (although interestingly not Skrillex's old band) so I think the 'screaming' synths are what drew me to it. I enjoy the offensive sounds lol.
Ah I see. Yeah I like that Skream track for sure. A friend of mine (well, former student) produces a lot of that kind of stuff under the name 'Disonata', may be of interest to some in this thread.

darkstep and neurofunk are DnB subgenres, they've been around for a long time, before dubstep.
It's a bit of a silly evolution, how people are starting to equate DnB tracks to dubstep... You frequently see comments like "OMG dubstep is the best!!" on drum and bass video's.

Meh, whatever. I classify it all as electronic. I love most of it, regardless of the exact genre. ;p
Yeah I know, if it's good music, it's good music. "Arguing" about it is a bit silly, but properly labeling things does help you find more in a similar genre.

I heard Skrillex somewhere and kept making fun of him, but he grew on me. This song is pretty much the reason:

From there I started getting into other stuff too...I like Nero a lot.
I tend to pop my headphones on and blare this stuff while I'm at work. Something about the loudness and intensity keeps my usually wandering mind focused...also wakes me up if I'm getting a little sleepy.
Some awesome stuff in here...Thanks for throwing this thread up...got some new music to check out now
Also, appearently dub step makes train simulator 2012 awesome:
