Well, the trick to all voice acting is just find a bunch of big names, even if they have no experience do this sort of thing. Works every time! Works horribly, that is.
Haha. It wasn't the voice acting as much as the slug was like "duude" and the chick's reaction to being shrunken. I dunno. Maybe it's to appeal to the younger audience and the movie isn't all like that. But it is Blue Sky. . so. .
I'm going to have to agree with erichWK as much as i hate to
I felt like it was going to be a gem in the sea of generic animated feature films, until they started talking. I felt like they created this incredible somber trailer around a pretty bad movie. Keeping phrases like "dude" out of movies tends to make them alittle more timeless....and just over all better especially when it's coming from a fantasy creature.
I've noticed lately that it's difficult for us to make a movie that has bad visuals. We've nailed down visuals for film pretty flawlessly (with a few acceptions, but no many). The stories are starting to suffer from it now, which needs to change!!!
I feel the Dude's and surfer talk in Nemo was totally done tastefully! I mean..the turtles were . . .Surfers. Literally. They surfed the current! And Wester and I live in San Diego..trust us.. we talk like that, dude.
I think the reason people think the dialog ruined it is because the music painted such a powerful picture of the world / universe, more so than the actual visuals. But then they went for the comedic end, which is in no way what the music leads up to.
Looks interesting... anything that isn't Ice Age 6 tbh... 20th Century Fox have destroyed that studio to be honest. They need to sever that relationship as soon as possible.
It's like fern gully meets the borrowers. I'm going to stop going to see movies because they look visually good. Shouldn't support shitty, lazy storytelling.
I liked the lighting and movement, but I thought the character design was incredibly boring.
And it was the delivery of the Dude that made it lame, not the inclusion. A more panic'd, desperate dude! Dude that's my eye!!! would have been just fine.

Voice acting aside, it looks cool.
That's all down to 20th Century Fox, mang. They throw a few big names in there every time, like Anne Hathaway. Blue Sky just gotta dance to the tune.
What the fuck has Brave got to do with this movie, now that you guys have brought it up?
Brave has some very well created moments in the movie, scenes like the tight dress, which rips open as she is shooting the bow are more then anything, anyone will do in the next 3 years in terms of scene setup. Feminism, Process, Dynamic Scene, Setup and Environment Moment, all in one scene.
And this movie doesn't look like it will have time/genre bending moments that shows the true quality of the narrative.
everyone picks movies a part anymore, what happened to just sitting down and enjoying a movie?
You're surrounded by people who's job / desire is to critique and study all forms of entertainment to push themselves further. If you don't want people to complain about the small things, you're in the wrong place !
Yea totally agree with wester and erichWK. The beginning had me really intrigued and then the characters dialogue kinda broke the flow and feeling of it... could still be good though.

The irony is, many people in the Movies part of the CGI related field will praise any movie they see that has a smidgen of CGI, it's usually the other side of the pond, people who aren't related at all to movies who will critique them to high heaven.
Maybe if people actually tried to see something for it's merits and flaws, instead of either bashing out right, or praising non-end, we wouldn't need White Knights and Trolls on the internet to balance each other out.
I'm willing to chalk up the apparent awfulness of the dialogue to a poorly considered trailer. That seems to happen an awful lot these days.
It'd be good to see Blue Sky step up and put out a really decent movie. They seem to have been stuck in the slapstick kiddie film area for a long time now, not helped by having turned out lord only knows how many sequels to Ice Age. They've clearly got the technical skills to pull off something impressive, they just need some good writing and direction. I'm not entirely convinced that Epic is going to get there, but we shall see.

Pretty much this. Why build up the trailer like that only to ruin it at the end?
I'm not sold on the film, but will probably still see it.

The "dude" aside.....when the girl is waking up and says that line....i cringed.
But!! I shall try holding judgement until the final product, which i will probably see.. at least for the visuals! I always loved Fern Gully.
i'm lookin at you brave >_>
