WIP Arc gun from District 9

Hi all,

I know this gun is quite old and many people made it, but I really liked it and decided to make it:) Here are some clay renders









And here is my texturing WIP. I'd say textures are 50% ready, but I still have a lot of work to do:





Still don't know what coloring is better- different people say different things:) I'd really appreciate critics and opinions. Thanks in advance!

I like the black better but I think you need to add some contrast with some silver/white accents. Good work though I like both

Yep, it took me quite a while to unwrap it:) Mapping itseld was pretty challenging - unsmoothed model has 130k tris and I started mapping it in Max, but finalized mapping in Maya, since Max is too slow at laying out objects that have that many tris. Model you see at renders has 2 million tris

Challenge:) And I really like how textured highpoly looks. I'm a game artist and made a lot of low-poly weapons in my career, so this is something I make for fun as well

Looks good! Are you going for exact replica or are you taking some freedoms? I just noticed a few things different.

Here's a picture of me holding the actual prop used in the movie. Taken at Weta Workshop in New zealand.

Two main things I notice is the symbol on the top tube is on the front for you, but should be on the side. And the gas tube on the front thing you have as very rounded, but it should be all bent in and what not. I know the blue prints online show it as rounded out, but ya. It's up to you, really. Im just being extremely anal.

You`ve done a fantastic job. As for colour, I do prefer the white version more. But I think its because the black version doesn't seem to have as much wear and tear on it.

Really nice model and nicely done textures as well. I would say you nailed it pretty well, although I really dont do weapons very much. Great work though nonetheless nice job

Applied simple specular map just to test how metal parts will look. I guess I'm almost done:) All I have to do is just refine this texture a little, texture hidden from this POV parts (yep, I was working mainly on visible parts :shifty: ) and create specular map.
