Maya 2013 - Can't import certain images for image plane?

I've been trying to learn Maya for a while now but this has been a problem for most tutorials I follow. Like it says on the tin, I can't import certain images. I tried setting them to both .jpeg and .png, tried checking my preferences. Nothing works, anyone know how to fix this?

What software did you use to convert the images?

Also what resolution are they?

Image doesn't need to be square for an image plane. I ran into this issue before and it had to do with not liking the file name. Try renaming to something simple like a.jpg. Also you can try resaving out of photoshop I've seen that fix it as well.

I used Paint.net(Don't have photoshop) and the file names are rather simple such as glock.png and glock.jpeg, wineglass.png, etc.

Dimensions for glock is 299x168 and wineglass is 225 x 225

Have you tried saving the image from another app?

Did you activate the textures in your viewport?

No I don't get an error, I'll try saving from Gimp this time. Yes, my textures are activated because I can use other images. To battlecow, I'm talking about the search menu when I try to import pictures. Only certain pictures appear in the search menu.

I guess you tried it already but did you choose "all files" instead of "image files" in the import popup (bottom right).
It may also be that you are saving your image files with the wrong settings, 32 bit image files for exemple. Try setting your image to an 8 bit RVB file. Hope it helps.
