Step one to being a successful indie developer: Don't buy Skyrim. Don't even LOOK at Skyrim. Therefore, I have failed.
So I'm working on some custom armour. Plans also include a sword and sort-of shield.
Armour and sword:
And a heavily-armoured arm instead of a conventional shield:
Here's what I've got thus far:

I'm eager to see if you can make it work ingame.
Rest of the design is also cool although the bandages are a little too "anime" for my tastes.
Aye, Frell. It wouldn't do very well in game otherwise.
Finished the base textures on the torso:
And here's the specular. I've never really done one before; How'd I do?
And speaking of dirt, a quick and dirty normal map:
the design is very cool btw. really like it... but i think your lack of high poly to bake down to normals is going to hurt this piece.
Yeah, I don't have a sculpt for the normals, but I'm going to do them by hand, which is close to almost kind of like the same thing.
Frell, if you use the FO3 Archive tool and unpack the Mesh.bsa, you'll find all of the base models in Data\meshes\actors\character\character assets
Attempted a grunge pass:
To fit in with Skyrim, I really think that you'll want to make a high poly for generating your normals. There may be some assets in Skyrim that were done without a high poly, but for a character's armor, you'll want a high poly source.
Is it the entire male_1 set?
Dat shield arm:
(The UV's for the skin aren't exporting for whatever reason, so I guess I'm made of frosted glass. Also, there aren't any normal maps or specular maps applied at the moment)
