Sketchbook: GKWill

Hello humans! I'm GKWill, or Will Norton in real life. The GK stands for Grounds Keeper if you wanted to know! Ironic thing is, I'm not actually a Grounds Keeper! I'm currently a student, living in Brisbane Australia and studying Animation at Qantm College here :). Going for my Bachelors Degree in Interactive Entertainment, Majoring in Animation.

Short story, I'm an aspiring 3D artist! I started 3D as I started my course back in September 2010, so I'd say I've been doing 3D art for about a year and a half? I hope one day to work in games or film or what ever needs 3D, not really fussed!

But I'll just be dumping any art related things I do here. They're mostly going to be 3D, but occasionally some 2D and other works might slip in.

Thanks!

I'm also relatively new to the Polycount forums. I signed up a while back, but didn't do anything and didn't look at the forum again for quite a while. But now I find myself here! Hope to get along with you all :)

I'll start out with the very first character I did. It was for my Basics of 3D course at uni. The course went for 12 weeks, and first got us to model a castle using basic shapes. Then it got us to model a jeep following a video tutorial. Finally they leaped up the difficulty just a bit and got us to design and model our own character. This is what I came out with.

I got a mark of 98% for that final assignment with this Dwarf XD

Here's a few more bits of work that I did before now just to try to catch myself and this thread up with the work I've done over the last year. Don't worry, I won't post everything XD.

For basics of 2D animation we just had to do a few short 2D animation exercises (I think the GIF export from Flash slowed them down just a smidgeon)

Final advanced 2D project, which was the next subject.

No one at my Uni was nice enough to smack me for deciding to do a 30-odd second, 2d animated clip with mostly full animation... If you've ever done any 2D, then you'll know how SMART a move that was on my part!

Now back to the good stuff!

Had to make a creature for my Advanced 3D Animation subject. Had to concept, model, texture, rig and animate it.

    And the final video:

Now it's getting to more recent stuff. There have been a few more works in the middle, but like I said earlier, I don't exactly want to spam the thread with useless stuff XD

Fire Mage Miyra, for Interactive Animation:

The final purpose of the assignment was for us to create a whole series of animation cycles that could be used in a game. Things like walk, run, etc!

The final video of the animations is here:

For another subject, I also had to create a Digital Environment. I decided to go somewhat the same style as the character one post up, since the two subjects were on at the same time. Man, creating that character above and this environment below, as well as taking a law subject and a Team Work/Client/Project management subject at the same time, all in the space of 12 weeks certainly took it out of me!

Since there were so many assets and textures with this environment, it would be stupid of me to post them all. So I'll just post a quickly doctored up image in Photoshop of the main assets with an AO pass, the trees as well as the final video. If you really wanted to see more for what ever reason then just ask. I'd be glad to post/message some more :)

A test for the water. Wanted a kind of Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker look:

Also this is where I learned that I'm really, REALLY bad at lighting.

    And that bloom is amazing.
